De Murgafanfare van Komen en Gaan was de eerste Murga van Gent. Met kinderen en ouders uit de vier wijkscholen en buurtbewoners van de Gentse wijk Sluizeken-Tolhuis-Ham werd in 2007 de Murgafanfare van Komen en Gaan opgericht. In de jaren die daarop volgden is de Murgafanfare geëvolueerd naar een wijkfanfare.
“Wij zijn een wijk- en familiefanfare. Buurtbewoners, grootouders, ouders en kinderen, verscheidene nationaliteiten, ...kortom een aangename afspiegeling van onze wijk trekt door de straten, over pleinen en staat vaak stil om haar verhaal te vertellen.”
MURGA is van oorsprong een Latijns Amerikaanse traditie.Tijdens een jaarlijkse parade bezetten groepen muzikanten, dansers en woordkunstenaars voor één dag de straten van hun stad. In bonte kostuums, met originele teksten, dans en muziek wordt een uniek straatspektakel gecreëerd. MURGA is het middel bij uitstek om te tonen wat er leeft onder de mensen. Bij MURGA is iedereen gelijk: alles draait rond de passie en de kleuren van de MURGA! Elke MURGA is vrij om dit op de gekst mogelijke manier uit te voeren. Creativiteit is de boodschap!
De Murgafanfare van Komen en Gaan was opgedeeld in 4 ateliers:
Atelier Muziek, Atelier Dans, Atelier Beeld en Atelier Theater. Onder begeleiding van professionele kunstenaars kon je gratis deelnemen aan één of meer lessenreeksen.
In deze ATELIERS stond de creativiteit van de deelnemers centraal.
Rond eenzelfde THEMA bedacht je in groep diverse scènes, muziek of dansstukken. Tijdens de ALGEMENE REPETITIES kwamen alle resultaten van de ateliers samen tot één theatrale fanfare. FIGURANTEN konden op ieder moment inspringen. ACHTER DE SCHERMEN kon je koken, koffiezetten, meehelpen in- en uitladen, kostuums herstellen, enzovoort.

De fanfare van komen & gaan
De Murgafanfare van Komen en Gaan', which translates more or less as ‘The parade that comes and goes', is a community art project of the city Ghent in Belgium. Through the process from idea to completion, this project offers a group of children and their parents from the local community the opportunity to explore their own creative potential while experiencing the benefits of an active community. Art, heritage and culture are the essential elements in the development of the individual and the group. We always choose a contemporary interpretation. Due to our way of working we try to develop cultural diversity step by step.
From the start, the 'Fanfare van Komen en Gaan' was mainly fascinated by the local aspect: each neighborhood has its own colors, its own music and its own story from the belly of the neighborhood. We interpret different those themes in our own way, which can lead to shifts of meaning and bizarre images. How is this heritage converted into the present?
A completely unique and eclectic approach in which tragedy and nonsense, stateliness and insanity, coming and going stand fraternally side by side. Art as a means of communication with the local community, the city and beyond.
Participants with less experience can easily be integrated and very often discover their hidden talents or passions while experimenting in the safe framework that is always led by experienced artists* to ensure a successful project and results the members of the group will continue to be proud of for years.
Each building block or artistic discipline has its own workshop. Each workshop works on the same theme inspired by a piece of authentic Ghent heritage. A spectacle of our Street Band is divided into two components: a parade and a street theatre performance. During the general rehearsals all creative results are combined into an overall spectacle. The lessons are open to absolute beginners and those who want to build on their existing experience. Enthusiasm is all that is required. The children, their parents and local residents can follow free percussion, dance, costume and drama lessons in their neighborhood. Everyone from 3 to 99 can join these activities!
