Mijn doel was om de workshop 'Photo Performance - Body as Landscape' te volgen, geleid door Uýra, op zaterdag 30 september 2023 in Wenen.

Workshop 2: "PHOTO PERFORMANCE - BODY AS LANDSCAPE"

Cities today are another nature. Their phenomena, countless that disrespect human and non-human life, have become landscapes of oppression and fatigue. It is on the basis of the structural and repetitive concealment and naturalization of urban, environmental and human problems that capital management does not solve them, only worsen them. To see and make see this strange urban nature is to open space for necessary debates, which lead to possible solutions. How can the body tell stories that no one sees? How does the camera capture this story of a body that transmutes itself into a landscape? We will have a meeting where plants that break through the asphalt will remind us that it is necessary to be stubborn.

De communicatie met de organisatie verliep traag, en ik werd pas laat op de hoogte gebracht van de eis om beide workshops bij te wonen. Het was voor mij financieel niet haalbaar om twee weekenden heen en weer naar Wenen te reizen, zeker gezien de hoge reiskosten voor slechts één evenement op 6 oktober in Wenen.

 I really wish I could participate in both workshops, but since I live in Brussels, it seems impossible for me to attend both sessions. I understand that the two workshops are closely related, but unfortunately, I do not have the financial means to travel twice from Brussels to Vienna.

Dear Pascal Buyse, I am very sorry to hear so, sadly it’s rather important to be present at both dates. However, you are kindly invited to come to Uyra’s performance at the Cliche Trash Festival. Nevertheless, I hope you understand that Uyra will be rather busy at that day. As far as I understand these workshops will be the only ones held by Uyra for the next time. I am very sorry for the inconvenience.

Hierdoor heb ik nog geen kans gehad om Uýra te ontmoeten. In de tussentijd hoorde ik via Wellington dat verschillende Queer artiesten in de regio bezig zijn met de artistieke praktijk van transformatie van mens naar plant en natuurelementen. Uýra is vooral bekend geworden door de documentaire.

Op https://www.tecnobarca.com/ is te zien welke samenwerking er zijn met andere inheemse Queer artiesten uit het Amazonegebied. Ook deze artiesten hebben een artistieke praktijk ontwikkeld die de relatie tussen queer identiteit en de natuur op een performatieve manier belicht. Dit biedt mij zeker de garantie op een inhoudelijke samenwerking. Bovendien is er via Wellington een persoonlijk contact met Uÿra. Zodra ik over meer financiële middelen beschik, zijn er zeker nog andere mogelijkheden om Uÿra te ontmoeten of een workshop met Uÿra te volgen.
